Why choose solar panels?
Sunlight is natural and a clean green energy. Once you have paid for the initial installation then what you produce is free. Any extra energy produced can be sold back to the grid through your power company or you can store that power in a battery system.
How much can solar save me?
How much you save depends on the size of the system and how much you use and when. By installing timers and controllers and minimising night time usage will save you more. Installation of a battery system allows you to use stored energy at night
Can I install this myself?
Yes you can with the 12/24 volt side of the system if you have some basic electrical understanding. With the 240 volt grid tied/invertor side we recommend getting a licenced electrician to ensure NZ standards are meet.
How much roof space do I need?
The amount of roof-space required will vary depending on the size of the system you wish to install. For example, a 1.5kWp system will require about 10m2 of unshaded roof space. Panels can be arranged any way to suit your roof
How can I mount on a flat roof?
A mounting system can be installed to angle the panels so they collect the maximum amount of energy from the sun’s rays
Will a grid tied system work with my house?
Yes, you should check with your electricity provider if they pay you for the excess electricity you put back into the grid. You may need to change your meter. They pay around 7 – 10 cents per kW
Do I have to have a battery?
A grid tied system will run everything during the day. Any excess will be put into the grid. Once the solar stops working at night you will be using the grid. Timers and controllers can be used to run appliances during the day light hours to utilise the solar system.
How much do you get paid if you export back to the grid?
Typically it is 7 – 10 cents per kW
Can I add to my system?
It depends on available space on your roof and your inverter size as to whether there is additional capacity. If there is sufficient space free for both, then you can increase the size of your system. If there is none you could consider installing a second system.
